Favorite Instrument: Drums

My Story

I was first drawn to music as a connection with my dad, who was an excellent pianist. But I wanted to play drums. Finally, at 16 years old, I prayed to God, and 2 weeks later, I got my first drumming opportunity. In order to practise, I made a deal with my music teacher to play in the school band if I could play the drums every lunch hour.

This extra practice paid off; I ended up winning the Music Spirit Award in high school, when plus learned how to play guitar and piano and ended up singing in front of the whole school. Between the ages of 16 and 21, I learned to play five instruments and sing.

I am inspired by a student’s interest in music truly coming alive, whether they are children or adult learners. I also believe a great aspect of music production is not just telling people what to do or where to put their fingers but developing a deeper learning of music that they can use in all areas of their lives. For myself, teaching is about having fun while learning proper techniques to make playing music easier and more enjoyable; to explore its emotions and understand the theory. I apply the same concepts to my personally-developed curriculum, which teaches music teachers how to teach music, builds confidence in their students, and transforms musicians into leaders. I also credit my role as a pastor in my love for playing and teaching music.
